Our top 10 post-lockdown adventures

We are planners by nature.

It’s in our DNA.

The next trip constantly brewing in the background.

Each one requiring its own plan, schedule, kit, tickets and expectant diary entry.

Adventures, adventurers and adventure memories launched by affirmative action.

Until now.

These last few weeks we’ve turned into a bunch of dreamers with a press up schedule.

But if you’re anything like us (and we know you are) then you’re sitting out these bizarre days with an ever increasing list of “things I plan to do post lockdown”.

And if our recent adventure survey was anything to go by, they range from the simple to the life changing.

Here at WildBase HQ we like a good list and therefore, we’ve come up with our own Top 10 list of “post lockdown adventures”

Fred Newton

Mixing the little and slightly bigger journeys with the aim of exploring the UK and places close to home by river, old trails, country roads and tidal estuaries. This will be combined with finding my own green space – something I think we all have a much bigger appreciation for.

  1. Hike the length of the 2000 year old Hadrian's Wall (4 days)

  2. Join a guided walk along Britain’s most dangerous path: the Broomway (1 day)

  3. Run the Peddars Way, an ancient 49 mile path through East Anglia (1 day)

  4. Kayak down the river Wey in Sussex (4 days)

  5. Cycle the Chilterns cycleway mooching through beautiful countryside (2 days)

  6. Swim to a river island on the Thames and sleep on it (1 day)

  7. A weekend rambling around the unspoilt Lincolnshire Wolds AONB (2 days)

  8. Wild camp on a Sussex hill for the Summer solstice (1 day)

  9. Buy a small woodland on woodlands.co.uk

  10. Discover and launch a series of awesome local adventures for WildBase

Initially it will be simple pleasures. Cycling without restriction. Picnics in the countryside and by the rivers. But having recently moved to Madrid I’ve had to put exploring the Iberian peninsula on hold so, once we get the green light I plan to go deep.

  1. Lisbon to Seville bike ride (7 days)

  2. Cycle into Sierra de Guadarrama without restriction (as long as I want)

  3. Kayaking down the ebro river (3 days)

  4. Complete Madrid Anillo Verde Ciclista in <3 hours

  5. Disappear into a cottage by the Douro River for writing, swimming, solitude and wine (long weekend)

  6. Cooking and walking the Spanish Pyrenees (1 day)

  7. Paraglide atop Andalucia (1 day)

  8. Surf Camp and Pintxos in San Sebastian (weekend)

  9. Explore Coastal Trails of Catalonia (3 days)

  10. Restart the WildBase 360 adventure weekends

Luke Grose

  1. Paddle board, run and swim the length of the longest river in the UK (River Severn) (10 days)

  2. Take my son, Jack, on his first hike up a hill (in a backpack)

  3. Hike the London Loop over a series of weekends (140 miles over 5 weekends)

  4. Go sea kayaking and wild camping in the Shetland Islands (long weekend)

  5. Ride a steam train from Settle to Carlisle and run back (long weekend)

  6. Do the Frog Graham Round (2 days)

  7. Run a classic fell race in the Lake District (1 day)

  8. Mountain bike the South Downs Way (1-2 days)

  9. Go swimming at Wraysbury Lakes (<3 hours)

  10. Spend a morning kayaking around the waterways of London (<3 hours)
